Ceramic Sculpture | Porcelain

This porcelain ceramic sculpture explores the greatness and reverence associated with motherhood, while also expressing the daughter's ambivalent feelings toward her mother. The daughter recognises the immense sacrifices her mother has made. She believes every scar on her mother's body stands as a mark of bravery, particularly from childbirth. However, along the journey of growing up, the mother and daughter inevitably encounter conflicts arising from differing perspectives, which generate complex, sometimes contradictory emotions between them.
The sculpture takes the form of an abstract female body, serving as the mould. The wall of this shell is less than 1cm thin, allowing light to penetrate and create a delicate interplay of light and shadow across the surface. Inside the hollow shell reside four small human figures, each posed differently and facing a distinct direction. These figures embody a range of feelings experienced during development. Being protected, relaxed, anxious, and sorrowful when coexisting at once. They may also be interpreted as representing different stages of adolescence, each figure capturing a unique emotional moment in the journey toward adulthood.
